Formstack Streamline now includes a robust document builder that bridges the familiarity of Microsoft Word with the data integration, prefill and signature capabilities of the platform.
With our new Document & Sign step, you can now choose between two powerful ways to generate documents as part of your workflow:
- Dynamic Documents: Build directly in-app using a familiar DOCX editing experience. Start from scratch or upload a DOCX file and flow data right into your document with style, structure, and full formatting control.
- Overlay Documents: Upload a PDF and drop in the exact fields you need—perfect for simple digital signature collection.
Below you can see the process of creating an NDA using our DOCX builder. Just like with Microsoft Word, you can format your document from the many options in the toolbar. Fields can be easily dragged into the builder from the left sidebar, as shown by the fields highlighted in yellow. This document is being prefilled both from a connected dataset in Formstack Streamline, and from a previous Form step in the workflow.

Real-World Use Cases
Two healthcare organizations are preparing to launch their workflows using the Formstack Streamline document builder—both with very different, yet equally compelling needs:
- One is a provider of therapy services that is looking to streamline the generation of clinician reports, which are prefilled with patient data directly from Salesforce. As they look ahead, they’re excited to incorporate collaboration and approval features coming soon to the dynamic builder—stay tuned.
- Another is a provider of surgical centers in Canada that has consent workflows where form responses and patient demographics need to be injected into predesigned PDF documents. Since many of their forms come from third parties, the overlay builder gives them the precision control they need over layout, formatting, and field placement.
Our customers are proving that with Formstack Streamline, even complex, regulated document workflows can be executed without compromising flexibility or control.
Summary of the Latest Document Capabilities
- PDF document generation – starting from either a DOCX or PDF file
- Seamless field prefill from earlier form steps or data sources
- Email delivery of generated documents through Notification steps
- A Word-like editing experience for dynamic docs
This is just the first step of a slew of great document generation and collaboration features we have planned for Formstack Streamline. We’re excited to see how builders like you use the document builder to move faster, reduce friction, and deliver better experiences.
